Earth Club Graz
– open discussion about climate and social tipping points
Earth Club Graz is a new format for informal and relaxed dialogue to exchange views on sustainable (ecological, social and economic) issues, especially related to the impact of climate change on the climate.
At the university, students and researchers deal ecological, social and economical crisis in many areas (Doctoral Programme Climate Change (DKCC), Environmental Systems Sciences, many other institutes and degrees, Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change, etc.), but there is too little exchange.
With our initiative we want people to meet and through open discussions increase knowledge about other disciplines, raise awareness and inspire others with new ideas through open discussions.
At the beginning there will be a brief contribution, for example, from the researchers or experts with three discussion questions. After the discussion, we give the opportunity with some drinks to have a more relaxed discussion in groups.
Join us to our first event about climate and social tipping points on Friday, June 24th, 6 PM at SchubertNest (Harrachgasse 21, 8010 Graz) at the University of Graz.
Since there is a bad weather forecast for tomorrow we will surely do it in the SchubertNest. As we said: it doesn’t matter if it rains, the event will take place it!
To have a totally relaxed event since it, it would be great if you could take a blanket to sit on.
Drinks can be purchased directly there from the bar ‚Skurril‘ with event discount.
One of our open discussion questions will be:
How can the social tipping elements be triggered to make our society climate neutral so that the tipping elements in the climate system are not triggered?
Our experts for our first event in the field about climate and social tipping points are:
Assoz. Prof. Dr. Maraun Douglas: Head of the Regional Climate Research Group at the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change
MSc BA. Strasser Luzia: Project Assistant for the Arqus European University Alliance at the KFU and PhD researcher at the Wegener Center, as part of the research group „Social Complexity and System Transformation“
